i dont know what to call them, but they look like the ones out of the 30's. i been looking at a set and there for the rear of a car. mine are shot. i was wondering if a rear set would work on the front? do they work well?

The truck before it was pulled apart rode good...for a '48

Technically, they are called "lever shocks". They must have worked pretty well b/c buick used them exclusively until the early 50s. I understand they are expensive to buy or have rebuilt though.

Some are single action and the later ones are double action. Get some that have resistance in both directions for the best control. Back when I started all this hot rod building stuff lots of people used lever shocks from small British sporty cars on the front of T Buckets and the like.

Google Armstrong shocks--(British) or Houdalay (Something like that) for the US style. E-bay sells the pretty regular--I use them often on light cars.
