Parts gathering seems to be what I do best, just haven't been able to devote a big block of time to any of the projects I have squirreled away, at least not building time. To many things that have to be done before the toys get any real attention. But I have had a boattail speedster idea rattling around in my head for awhile. (Actually a couple of ideas, but that's another story.) This one would be a single seat, quite narrow, and a odd, or different power plant to get it around. Then things just kind of happened, no planning, just fell into place. I had recently bought a modern mid size Chev car for the engine (going in a lawn roller)and was going to scrap the rest. Got looking at the car to see if there was any promise, or other function in it. Starting at the tip of the front fenders and going toward the back, there is a boattail speedster body in there!! The general shape is there, and with a few fill in pieces in the wheel wells and door handle recesses, it looks like it would smooth right out. So I've hung on to it until I can do the hack and slash and liberate the needed parts. The clincher happened this past weekend, an engine fell into my lap....and odd it is. A V4 75 HP 2 stroke Johnson outboard. I think I have the major stumbling blocks of clutch/flywheel and cooling/exhaust issues worked out in theory. I have a model A frame and running gear in the wings for it. A lot, if not most of the trinkets required will have to be handmade for it. Even have a lever handbrake from a 1965 5 ton Ford truck that will work on the outside of the body providing the look of the era I'm after. Parts, pieces and ideas have come fast and furious for this one....and I wasn't even looking to start this project for quite sometime, to many other before it. It took on a life of it's own so maybe it is meant to be. I'll have to get a picture of the car before I cut it up and do the before and after thing. I'm not much of a computor operator, but I'll try the photo shop bit and see if the speedster will emerge. On the brink of getting busy...er. (Just a hint, don't retire if you plan on getting anything done!! Been there...doing that.)
