I'm 6' and the seats I had were a little too tall and I didn't like the built in middle console thing... so I got a pair of bucket seats from an old Nova. They sit much lower than the seats I had so I raised them 2 1/2". It seems a little high so I may lower them back to 1" (raised). The pic showed are from the 2 1/2" raise. My question is where do ou mount your seats. Do you want you shoulders level with the window frame (so you can hang your arm out all cool). With the raise the top of my head is a little higher than the top of the window frame, and I want to have my head at the middle of the window. Is this being too critical? I want it EXACTLY how I want it.

Let me know how you like it.

The cool, arm out the window, is extremely critical, and a must at the entrance to car shows, and any time you are getting both a picture and a ticket at the same time.

I wanted to see out my windows and sit where I felt comfortable behind the wheel.

Yup, it's not being critical to be comfortable. Thing is what seems right in the shop may turn out not to be after 50 miles in the saddle. Whether you are comfortable with your legs straight out or not, stuff like that.

:D:D:D Priceless. We're not afraid to tackle the important questions at RRR!! Bonehead, have you been involved in a ticket photo shoot - got any pics?

The way I see it, cool factor wise, if you can get your arm pit over the door frame, your good. You can lean to the door and hang your arm down the side. Much cooler than the elbow out the window IMO. Also try the 'hold the top of door' and 'hold divider bar' positions for fit.

Personally, I'm left handed, so I tend to steer with my left hand (or the always cool wrist steer) and hang my right on my tall shifter Rat Fink style - super cool. :)

Uh yeah - not running into things is much cooler though - visibility first?

Thanks for the responses. The question was kinda half serious, and half not. I do however need to be able to hang my tats out the window... hehehe. All kidding aside... I can't figure out what will be more comfortable in the long run... having my legs stretched out and my seat back straight up or have my legs bent and have my seat be able to recline some?????????

I guess I'll find out when it's time to drive it.

I prefer reclined back and knees bent. in my 48, I modified the seat so my shoulders almost touch the back of the cab.

Yup I have to say its all about comfort. You do have ot have a place to rest your arm. And there is no better place than on the edge of the window. But sit in it for a while see how it feels. Can you see yourself riding like that for hours?

I've mocked it up both ways and I think I like it better with my knees bent and my back reclined. We'll see... Thanks again, and some more pics would be cool.

Looks like you got it figured out. I have adjusted and re-ajusted my seat position and steering wheel position at least 4 times. I think it is now the way I want it, but time will tell.

Seat position is important if you drive much and comfort is probably a little different for everyone depending on personal likes and dislikes. I'm sort of like Flipper on this one. I like to sit low in the car, reclined, with my knees bent. Of course sometimes interior space limitations and steering column/wheel position, length, and angle can cause a compromise.

My car usually looks like there is no driver in it lol

I figured out my seating position first. I used anything I could find to mock it up (various wood blocks mostly). Then I mounted the steering column so that the wheel was in the right spot for where I was sitting. And then put pedals in places that didn't interfere with the column.

Comfort and visablity. My seats have sliders and recline so (1) I can adjust the position depending on purpose and trip length (2) My wife is only 4'10" so she can adjust to suit her.

weld it! looks good. Me, after 12 years of racing I like my site if vision to be level with the window sill and steering wheel in my lap. Dont like to hold my are straight at all. Turn with shoulders not elbows. might be 3 cents there just havin a lil fun
