pitman arm

i'm having trouble getting this pitman arm off. it looks like it has a sleeve that goes into the box. should i try cutting the arm itself off and leave the sleeve going into the box? maybe i'm wrong. the pictures are hard to see but i'll post anyways. the box is out of a s10, so it is set up for cross steering, but i intend to mount it under the frame for side steering.

dhd, I doubt there is a sleeve. The pitman shaft just has a step in it leading up to the splines. A hefty puller is frequently needed. There have been times when I've had to apply lots of heat with my oxy-acetelyene torch with a #7 welding tip (I don't have a rosebud tip) in addition to using a puller.

Gear puller time!.Put lots of torque on the bolt,
then smack the bolt with a big hammer.

Heat it up and melt wax onto the splines before you try to pull it.

PB Blaster and heat seem to work for me.....................When you replace it, use some anti-sieze.
