I picked this 27 Buick frame up at the last auction I went to. I like it so much that I am thinking about hooking a modern rear axle to this frame and suspension. But is this a quarter eliptical set up or has it got another name?

I'm no suspension expert but the frame is really cool! It looks pretty stout. Nice find Bonehead! It looks like a quarter eliptical to me but the ultimate truth will likely come from somebody else.

Not a quarter eliptical. Not sure what it would be called. A 1/4 E looks more like this below.

I bought a frame off eBay that had the same setup. Intended to use it on my International but the rear wheels were too close to the cab to fit it all in. Obviously it is a semi-eliptical spring but the middle pivoting anchor point makes it act more like a quarter eliptical spring. I suspect the spring takes a mild "S" shape on a hard bump. I hope you can use it on a project because it is an interesting setup.

I've never seen a set-up like this. If I had to make up a name, I would call it a "cantilevered semi-elliptical rear spring". What a great frame to build a unique rod with!

Interesting, shame the front is missing. Are you sure that is a Buick?

I have the front axle too, but no springs. Yes it has a Buick ID tag on the frame, and cool Buick dustcaps. Not positive on the year, but I know it is close. I also have the grill, front fenders, and some other tin.
