I found a Mr. Gasket 3 speed ratchet shifter at the junk yard sitting in an old race car. Motor and tranny were gone but the shifter was still there. The guy only wanted like $10 so I bought it. I'm assuming these were universal and would probably work on my turbo 400. My question is... is this true, and what are the ups and downs of using a ratchet shifter? I've never personally used one, but think they are pretty cool so what do you think? Let me know if you would like some pics of it and I'll get some for ya. I've got a cool long shifter handle from my 37 Ford and want to make a threaded sleeve to connect the two for the long shifter look.

I had a Hurst ratchet shifter on my t400 in a Pontiac. It worked fine. I loved slamming the gears. Was a little tricky to adjust though.

I have a rachet shifter on my jeep and i cant stand it anymore. Lately, it magically goes into 2nd instead of Drive.(adjustment im sure) Then going from forward to park is sometimes a pain in the neck. Im pretty sure there universal.
