I need SOFT rear shocks for my Model A. I threw on some F150 shocks I had laying around, knowing they'd be too stiff. And they are!

Roads in Houston are beat to hell, need a soft shock to soak up the bumps. Trying to think of a production car that isn't too heavy in the rear, had a soft suspension, so I can get some from the auto parts store....

Ideas?

I have a buddy who used Mitsubishi Eclipse rear shocks/struts from Pull A Part on his 28 roadster. They are hidden under the body for the most part and he's really happy with them. Tennessee roads aren't much better and he had the same problem as your having. Well - not anymore.

Thunder1, Are the Eclipse units a shock/coil/strut? Or just a shock?
Thanks,
Bob

I have used Monroe racing shocks from Speedway. They look very heavy, with a 5/8" shaft. But you could get them in a extra light/extra light calibration. And, they weren't expensive. Unfortunately, Speedway no longer has them and I haven't found another source.

Bob,

They are a shock/strut from what he told me about them. I've seen them and there were no coils. Silver in color - pretty basic looking.

The rear strut idea is a good one, alot cheaper than coilovers! I already have seperate coils though.

I think I might try some shocks from a K-car. They had a rear beam axle, real soft suspension and were pretty light. Autozone has them for $16.

New LeBaron shocks are on - and man what a difference! Rides like a '60 caddy with the optional air suspension!!

I'd reccomend them to anyone not running coilovers.:):):)
