registration question

what parts do u need to classify a vehicle as a certain year/make and model?
I mean for registration purposes.
I've heard of the frame, Ive heard of the car. but i have no idea.

being in the military i can pretty much get away with using several states for registering

In California, the first 500 are allowed to register their as what ever they resemble. Once the first 500 is exhausted, it's special construction until the following year.
