Bought a early 30 Ford frame, is there any way to know what year? Is it important to know the year concerning the parts I will need later.
Going to build a rat of some sort but that a ways off as I want to have the frame complete and ready before moving to the next stage. Plans are for a six cyl motor and auto trans. Not sure about the cab/body as to what I want.
Any way I want to clean, sand, remove the running board mounts and anything else not needed. Plan on using the rear buggy spring, is that a good or bad idea?
And lastly, with a frame this old would it be a good idea to box it in? Metal looks good but haven't blasted it yet to know for sure.
Thanks

Is this a Model A frame? They didn't change much from 28-31, just a few subtle changes. Yes, boxing is always a good idea when using 80 year old metal. Buggy springs work fine when done properly.
When using the "A" frame, check the area where the engine was mounted. It's back a couple feet from the front and used 4 bolts through the side of the frame (on each side). Due to the rubber on both sides f the original mount, they are often pretty rusty right there. If so, just cut the whole area out and weld in a new plate. It also cleans up the frame just to get rid of those holes.
Also set the frame up on some stands and level it. Then pull measurements from corner to corner to make sure it is straight. I've owned a bunch of those and a lot of them were tweaked.
First build? Best to go to the DMV BEFORE you start and make sure you are following their procedure so you can get the car titled.
