Hey y'all. Just got back from a 2 week camping trip to the southwest. Wound up following Route 66 from OK to AZ, checked out the new bridge at Hoover Dam, watched a Roadrunner beat a rodent to death in Death Valley, and to top it off, got a grand tour of Sky Ranch by none other than Bonehead.

Saw a lot of great tin sittin' out there - nothing pre-40, but otherwise, it's EVERYWHERE!

May post a few rat rod oriented pics and a few more details when I get the chance. Now I gotta catch up on past posts.

Forget the trailer, I've got another idea. Tripper, or other Texan, may be able to explain better.

Short story:
As we were driving through TX, we came up on a old beat up mini-van fully loaded with junk towing a old beat up Toyota pick-up also loaded with junk. The guy was going 75+. Twice, before we got past him, he just about lost it because the truck started to whip - nver slowed down though. Later we pulled off for gas. Got back on the road and a few minutes later came up on the guy again. This time he's standing behind his van in the ditch with a cop. The truck is scattered all over the Interstate along with all the stuff it was loaded with. Looked like it rolled about 6 times.

Found out later talking with a camper from Texas that these guys from Mexico come and buy used vehicles, load 'em down with garage sale stuff and run 'em back to Mexico. WHAT??! And Tripper would be afraid to drive in Iowa because we have no car inspections???

So could I just hire some of these guys to run junk cars back to Iowa? :D

Oh yeah, those campers from Texas had a real cool 4x4 compatible trailer for camping: www.adventuretrailers.com

pretty common on texas roads, i had a shop in collegestation for years, its between waco and houston, and a college town. every weekend you would see all these beat up pick-ups or vans loaded to the max and pulling auction cars or cars that should be on the cash for clunkers list. all headed down to brownsville and into mexico. it wasnt uncommon to see a chevy 1/2 ton pulling a s10 and behind that, hooked to the s10 would be another car-truck. yep. 3 in a row. and doing 60+ mph. nice and safe.........

sam glad you made it back o.k. and cant wait to get out there on the road trip dp1
