Speedometer cable???

I am just wondering what som of you have done about a speedometer cable for aftermarket gauges - I have VDo gauges and I have been told the you need an adapter for the cable to the back of the gauge but everywhere I look the adapter is either out of stock or they just don't carry it at all anymore

most speedo's are 5/8, chevy and Ford will bolt up, We are talking early 60-70 cables here
