Here is my question. I have a ton of truck cabs lying around and one is crushed in the roof area. So I was going to wack the roof off and use it for a speedster tub. I have traditional dropped straight axle buggy srung suspension that I could use OR I also have a complete C4 vette front and rear suspension (parted out the rest of the car so I am in them $0). So question is can the speedster have C4 vette suspension front and rear? I thought it would look cool hanging out in the breeze in the rear under a round fuel tank, no bed, no fenders etc. same in the front. Or would the rod gods frown on my and give me itchy armpits for life? vote in the pole! Thanks[P

I'm with UI. The 'reinactor' 'formula' rat is not what its about..

In the words of my 5 YO Grand daughter when I was slow getting her a glass of water.. "DO IT!!!

take what ya got make what ya want [;)

If i remember correctly there is a lot of cast aluminum in the c4 suspensions from the factory, break out the grinder and clean up the castings and polish it out, nearly free billet look without the cost and it should handle pretty good too

Rule #2: Build it the way you want - it's your ride!

This is usually the advice I give people when asked. My issue is vehicle A.D.D I can see it built either way and only have enough parts to do one car and the shop truck! I think I will stick with my original plan of using the traditional parts in the truck build and what I have laying around (ie; vette stuff) to do the speedster on the quick and dirty. I do have a spare cad 500 sitting around. Hum.....

rule #1 is top secret. rule #3 states "follow rule #2 and ignore rule #1 unless faced with an angry rhino". Not sure what that means but that is what it states.....:D

If I had access to the vette stuff, I'd be tempted to build a ratted out, high tech billet mobile. Make look like somebody parked a Boyd car out behind the barn 25 years ago. ;)

Instead of doing everything out of aluminum like a lot of those cars were. Fab everything out of steel so it will get rusty. [ddev 90's billet wheels can be picked up at swap meets pretty darn cheap.

Now that is an interesting idea. Like something a redneck that won the lotto would buy and leave in the chicken coupe. I could hit the swap meets and try and find corroded billet dash inserts and stuff like that. Off cast parts that the shiney crowd deems unusable. I have an LS motor that I could stuff in there as well. Just need to find some salt flat wheels that someone has let go to pot and I should have eveything I need. Hum..........[S

Do it!

You would be pretty much guranteed to **** off damn near everybody....street rodders, traditionalsist, and hard core rat rodders (because of the billet).

It would get so much attention, and be so much fun at the same time.

...and since the smoothed over cars of that period had so many scratch-built panels, you could build it without screwing up decent vintage tin (low cost build).

When I get home, I'll try and dig out some magazines from then and scan pics of the style I'm thinking of.

I grew up in the 70's-80'2 so I am familiar with the styles (or lack there of). All the bird splat paint, baby blue/pink colors, and billet everything! Engine covers that hid a bone stock 190 hp SBC etc.

Want to see how this turns out. (what is Rule #1 ?)

Rule #1: Build it safe.
Rule #2: Build it the way you want - it's your ride!
Rule #3: Drive the [your choice of profanity] out of it!!!

I'm starting to like the sound of a pitted billet rat?

put a 3 or 4 foot bed and no hood or fenders. the short bed is good for part runs and getting a small travel bag somewhere to fit if you and the lady in your'e life go to any 2-5 day shows.

as for the IFS, l get crud all the time from hardcore people about my 33 dodge, it is fenderless/hoodless and the IFS hangs out in the wind.
l hear all the time ''that's not traditional'' .

l drove the car that my chassis/suspension was based on and it handled like a slot car. the design that is under my dodge is used in several cars this company makes. in fact, the same jig my chassis came off of is the one they use in there Cobra replicar chassis and suspension.

do it do it do it do it do it do it and tell 'em what l tell 'em. '' I HAVE TO DRIVE IT NOT YOU''

can it have C4 vette suspension?

The way I look at it this way, a Corvette is a sportscar, sportscars are for the tweed suits (wine and cheesers) fiberglass and stainless steel and chrome/alumimun type folks. Rat Rods are rough riding and crude and rude and real steel and rusty. Kinda like mixing oil and vinegar to me. Think of it like putting a Cummins Diesel in a Toyota Prius. Just my two cents thats all.

I have to agree with Flipper. Speedsters were built to be fast and competetive. You have the opportunity to build a progressive speedster incorporating modern technology.

Don't mean this in an offensive way, but why use "stale" technology when you can make an innovative rod that is the next step in the evolutionary ladder?

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.....

...yeah, but....

JUST BECAUSE IT HASN'T, DOESN'T MEAN IT SHOULDN'T
