:pOH GREAT RAT-ROD GURU'S:p

anyone out there know , when installing steering joints on a double "D" shaft, how they should be fazed?

i am installing 3 in a coupe, with a mustang style rack and pinion for someone, to clear his center dump manifolds, and need to know if they should be cap to cap or should i turn the center one of from the other two?

i search'd but didnt find any threads covering this...

thanks for your input guys, george. dp1

don't know about 3 u joints on steering, but pretty sure that on a truck with 3 on the driveline that they all "phase" together...

i sure hope that i'm not wrong!!

i would think that they all need to phase together, or you'll have 2 "sections" that are out of phase--confused? i'm dizzy!!!

I've seen quite a few drivelines in HEAVY type trucks with the last yoke out-of-phase by a few degrees...I'm not entirely sure, but I do believe I remember being told it was to compensate for torque "wrap" under heavy load.

I'd keep all your caps in phase for steering use. Seems to me not phasing them properly would lead to a binding condition-the steering system is the LAST place you want restriction of movement!

Shea:)
