Trying to figure out my steering. I have this 30's Studebaker (spelling?) steering box that I got for FREE. I'm trying to figure out how I might make this work. I want the tie rod to run parallel to the frame, but how level or parallel to the ground should it be. I've seen several that look like they are going up from the pitman arm to the steering arm. My question is do you think this one I have will work or will I need to find a Mustang or VW bus box that mounts underneath and the pitman arm points up. I know the Mustang or VW will work, but can I make the FREE one I have work?

Thanks in advance...
KD

Now the box is just kinda sitting there and I should have clamped it for the pic, but the shaft will need to point up more. This box mounts on the top of the frame so I may have to notch the frame or something.

Grill is looking sweet. What you have looks pretty good. Idealy the drag link runs flat across the frame and connects close to the same point as your hairpins, ( so you can steer the same during suspension travel). I have not seen too many that work out perfect. But from what I can see it should work fine.

you can remove the index on the shaft and mount the arm in any position you want, it looks like it will work as is

Thanks for the feedback. That article was great and explains it well. Thisis a good solid box but I will take it apart to make sure... maybe replace some bearings and inspect the gears.
