I'm at the point where I need to figure how I'm gonna do my steering. I don't really know what I'm doing in this area . I kinda like when you see old roadsters with the steering box under the dash and sticking out the side of car. I have a 50 f-1 that I'm building . Can this be done to my truck? I think the left tire will hit the bar that goes down . If any one could give help that would be great! Thanks

The biggest problem with cowl steering on a wider body like you have is exactly what you have mentioned........the drag link sits way outboard and it limits tire room on left hand turns.

Post some pictures of what you have, that will help a lot.

Hey Ernie, I am currently working on the same problem with my 49 Ford bobber. I was going to cruise the junk yard today, but it snowed last night. :(

Lotta mud in the yard right now so it will have to wait.

I have thought about rebuilding my manual steering box and building a bracket to mount it on top to the frame in order to clear my bones, but my serial number stamp is on the rail right there. Might look for a manual Toyota box to mount just out past the serial number stamp.

You can see the situation I'm in with bones and steering.

Ok I'm back. Thanks for input , not quite sure what I'm gonna do . So you mentioned a Toyota steering box? Thanks but no thanks . Made in America . All U.S. parts on this build . Back when American ment something ; I'm trying to use 66 and older parts. I have A few issues on my trucks frame and steering . I zed my frame 6 inches so it also pulled my wheels forward 6 inches. I then put a dodge 318 / 727 trans . I pushed engine back far in cab so trans hump is Pertty big. I have a little problem with the way my steering column comes down . It will hit my exhaust manifold so I'm gonna have to cut column down to about a 10 inches and start using knuckles to get me where I need to be. I don't think I could do the side thing . Hay is there a name for that type of steering? Well thanks for your time and help
