I just had three people tell me that they got a tax bill from the State of Pa. asking for the taxes on the items they bought on ebay. They said it was a used item purchase Tax. They told me that the state went back three years for the tax.

I do not think that they are pulling my lag becuase these three do not know each other.

Has anyone else heard of this.

I have been charged state sales tax on some items that I've purchased on ebay that were in my own state, but I've never received a notice from the state after the fact when I wasn't charged sales tax by the seller at the time of the purchase. I'm in Florida.

If you buy used items in a thrift, or second hand store, you would be charged sales tax, but to go back three years on some ebay items? That's insane. Were the buyers also in Pa?

Hummmm?!

Although I am skeptical, unfortunately... the answer may be yes! Check this link...

I would be curious to know who the billing entity was & who they asked to make the check out to. Also, going back 3 years sounds a little odd to say the least & typically sales tax is collected by the seller. I would write the seller & inquire about this!

They told me that the bill came from the state and along with a statment about claiming this items on your tax return every year. and if it was not paid by a date there would be a penalty .

I hope I do not get one I buy and sell alot on there.

I know this state is money hungry. because if you build a car and want street rod tags or recon. you need to have every bill for all of the parts you put on the car. even the bolts. If one bill does not have sale tax on it and you miss it when doing the paper work they will reject it and you start all over.

Were you buying or selling from someone in PA? That should be the only tax that should be due maybe. I know States want to get in on Interstate money because they are losing . How can states manage sales tax from a private seller that doesnt have a sales tax number or even be listed as a bussiness ? The next thing would be cash at auctions, flee markets and tag/garage sales . It is just another way to bleed the small guy . I always said that they will do this until there is a National revolt. Until there is massive problems in the streets they will stick their heads in the sand and keep thinking that there is rainbows and butterflies all around Federal and State buildings .

That's crazy!!!

Wow... this is the craziest thing I have ever heard. I know some states make you get an appraisal & then tax you on that amt. but I hardly ever keep *every* single invoice for *every* single part I buy.

Washington State wants the same...you had better have a recipt for every bolt, nut and washer.

thats because we are the " Peoples Republic Of Washington" did you know that in other countrys IE the philipines, Sudan, Bosnia they have printed flyers that discuss which states have the best welfare programs, and which states require very little documentation to get benefits. Guess which state is at the top....Washington.

It takes a village... to raise other peoples kids.
