How many builds start with one small thing you want to use? I have this 283 laying around and it's gnawing at me. It's begging to be used. Now those of you who know me, know I strongly dislike seeing 350s in everything or chevy engines in Fords so I probably wouldn't put it in a Ford. I might even stray the course and use an automatic even though I have all the stick shift stuff including a new clutch and flywheel.
There is a real straight 67 long bed with a locked up 250 that I could get for $400-$500 but it isn't screaming my name yet. Or a 49 GMC shortbed that's real straight, I could probably get it near free. I don't own a pickup so either of those would be useful.
But then there's that smurf blue 40 Ford panel that needs attention first and the 283 don't fit that plan. The cogs are churning.

Sure, most of my projects start because I have some part laying around that needs a home. My current rpu project came about because my Son didn't want the body, after he bought a new one, and my current drag car project is because I had that nice little 350 motor laying around.

I've built cars because I had a steering wheel that I thought would look cool on some car. :D

Don

Don, don't even get me started on the three banjo wheels I have hanging on the wall. I've been trying to think of a way to convert one from a tapered key shaft to a more common spline.

I can't even seem to finish a build when starting with whole car......but someday that 401-425 Buick Nailhead factory 2X4 intake on my wall will be the beginning of a build, I just know it!

SnakeFarm, that looks more like a hospital, not even a greasy paw print on the white boom box.

I checked the date on that pic WB3........Dec. 28, 2009....got that XM Boombox for Christmas that year so that's three days dirt on the Boombox and seven years dirt on the Chevy II windshield. :p

S. Farm has not worked on old vehicles much lately.:D

Ya got that right Bob, any grease that might have been on that Boombox has been replaced by sawdust and drywall mud since I've been on the Paradise Road project.

Haha, I wasn't hacking on you, just jealous. That's still cleaner than my house is.
Meanwhile back on the subject, who else has built a car from some single component that caused the beginning?

I had a dog once that liked to mess with me. He'd steal parts left on the floor in the project. I came up missing an axle nut for an old harley I was working on. Didn't find it when I needed it so I had to buy one to complete the job. One day I did locate it and put it back to keep for something else. I started a ground-up build on a 1959 panhead with that nut...wish I still had it!
