Just for fun, if you were pulling together the ultimate hot rod kit of basic parts, what components would be in that bag?

-Chassis
-Suspension
-Differential
-Engine
-Transmission
-Steering

Let the debate begin!:D

Wow, now that is a great question. There is one parameter you didn't state and it can make some difference as to the choice of chassie you could use. However, I'm going to assume we're doing a rat truck using a cab that is pre 1948. Ok so here is what I would offer in a kit.

1) The chassis would be a pre cut 2x4 u-weld it kit with all brackets and mounts included. It would be all lazer cut and fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.
2)I would incorporate the Speedway basic front suspension with disc brakes, and thier basic 4 bar and coil over set up for the rear end.
3)For the rear end I would go with something a little different than the usual 9inch. I would go with the Ford 8.8 rear. Simply because there a good strong unit, plentyful and there are lots avalable that are already the proper width for most rods. eg. mustang donors.
4)The engine of course would be the staple to the industry ,the small block chev, but you could order your frame to mount something different if you so chose.
5)Trans options would include 350/400turbo, 700r4, 4L60/4L80 or T5. Again others could be ordered.
6)A typical cross steer set up would be used with a vega style box, or a drag link with a reversed Corvair box.

There you have it. Simple easy to find parts that can be easily repaired anywhere you happen to roam.

32 frame V8 quick change, dropped front axle with juice brakes, Wide 5 wheels, hot flatty with probably a T5 tranny and F1 steering box. Alternate engine would be 326 olds or 365 caddy. It would all be in a gennie 32 3 winder. A 33-34 3 window would be just as good or maybe even better but on it's own frame.
