Every year we had a wasps nest in our mailbox. Bumblebees liked to nest in the cab of our farm truck most every year too.

on my willys jeep yellowjackets loved that thing.
i could never figure out why
i drove it everyday and as soon as i parked in my driveway they would start landing on the front end.
as a guy that is allergic to bees it was a bit unnerving.

maybe they like the smell of anti-freeze?

I believe so. They also like the smell of propane, natural gas, beer, cola, and evidently, my backside...

I sat on a fallen tree when I was a wee fella. Unbeknownst to me, that tree also hosted a bee's nest... I got stung a couple dozen times and spent an hour with my bare a** in the air while my mother pulled the barbs. (I can still hear my brother laughing but I failed to see the humor.)

I'm still afraid of the damn things but I'm glad I'm not allergic... anybody know how to repel the little buggers?

common

at first l thought you were describing my EX-wife till l looked at the picture. it's funny they do have a lot in common, both of them have bad attitudes, sting you & leave you and cause a lot of pain & misery

Later

What color was it? Once I painted some bands of bright color on a demo car and the yellow jackets swarmed to the yellow color but not the green, red or blue.

Billy this may be up your alley. Marlin makes or made a 22 mag smooth bore. I read about it in a magazine a few years ago. The author was using Ritze crackers for pigeons. but said he was having fun shooting bees.

I'm not allergic so I don't worry much. We need all those bees here to pollinate our crops and flowers so I leave them alone unless there is a nest in a car I need to work on. I have found that as long as I don't bang near their nest, they are not a bother.

hank ,, I know what your talking about ..I bought a 49 chevy cab and it had bumble bees in the seat. well when I figured out I made them mad , I done slapped my self up-side the head and bent my glasses in the process , as my glasses were flipping out threw the yard I wasnt sure who slapped me the bee or my hand ,, I decided to leave them alone for a while .. I didnt want to fetch my glasses but I did :D I knocked the mess out of my self (reflex's Is tuff on a feller )

I'm not allergic to the extent of my throat swelling shut or anything like that and Yellow Jackets, Hornets or Bumble Bees just hurt and leave a welt. But, if a Wasp gets his "Arse Dagger" in me it hits my nervous system almost immediately and I shake uncontrollably for a half hour to forty five minutes. To the point I couldn't sign my name with a pen. I call them "Shakey Bees" :p

My place is full of every kind of bee known to man...I dont use any kind of sprays because I grow a lot of my own food...so I have learned to work around them...I actually redid an open car trailer a couple of summers ago and there were bee houses all over it..the first day or so they were not happy with me...but once they figured out I wasnt going spray something at them or try and kill them they would send a scout out and sorta watch me as I toiled around on the trailer...not sure if this is typical or not but at my place in upstate NY thats the way we roll...

my smelly old 2 cents...

Mike, like many other creatures, they can sense ill intentions. I have several nests of wasps right around the house. I don't bother them and they don't bother me. If they build a nest right in a car where I have to work, it has to go though.

I wish one of you "animal whisperers" would come over. Got an infected wasp sting last year. The moles have riuned my yard. Woodpeckers and Chickadees have made several holes in my siding, a bat keep crapping on my porch, a red squirrel was nesting in my porch roof. Gotta love the country life.

We have a couple dogs that get moles but the dogs dig holes. Not sure what to do about the birds, maybe there is a repellant you can spray on?? Cats?? The bats I'd keep, they eat a lot of pesky bugs. I had a squirrel problem. trapped or killed the little bushy tailed rats. Only ever had one at a time but as soon as you kill him, another would move in. But you are right, when you live in the country, you cannot anesthetize your property from the indigenous species. Fox and coons kill all our chickens and white tail deer decimate the garden.
