My donor motor and trans came from a 84 Chevy 1 ton van so the Turbo 400 has the bolt on yoke. I am going to use a one piece drive shaft and a slip yoke. The slip yoke I have is quite long. It only slides into the trans 2 1/2 inches and bottoms out. I will only need about 3/4 inch of movement so the yoke sticks way out. Should I cut it off or let it stick out? It has splines all the way front to back.

I would cut it, or find the right yoke. (The one you have is for a trans with a long tailshaft and housing). If you run it stickin' out like that, you're gonna bugger up some stuff.

to cut or not

yes cut it, if it rides inside and smashes into the rear bushing it will burn it out real fast, we used to cut them all the time when lowering mini trucks,

Never seemed to hurt anything, but I went through this one time and I just used the original and welded the bolt hole in the yoke and pulled it back an inch or so and made the driveshaft to fit.You should be able to cut the new one if its splined deep enough.

Won't hurt to cut it, but two tips!

Make sure to get a straight cut

Bevel the outer edge so as not to nick the seal, if you have a way to bevel the inside it will be easier to install!!

All of them I have seen are splined all the way in!!

I cut it...in the picture it's all the way in. Ill pull it out about 3/4 in. when I measure for the drive shaft. But I can't do that til I install the 3rd member but I can't do that til I get the gasket I ordered from the only parts store within 30 miles, and the gasket didn' come in Sat. like they said it would because ......... never mind!

Yep. I've even had a driveshaft shop tell me to cut a little off one time. I've done it and no problem whatsoever.
