Hi Last year i purchased a 1936 Standard 10 (here in the uk The standard motor company was one of many uk car manufactures a bit like Morris)
The car i purchased had already been built as a rat rod but was purchased as a non runner due to a possible carb fault.
After getting the car home and having a tinker I found that it was in fact the distributor that was faulty.
I set about buying a brand new Powermax distributor i also purchased a brand new Edelbrock intake manifold and Weber 4 barrel carb.
I also fitted a new fuel pump and filter and air intake.
The car ran fine after these additions.
We drove the car around for a few months and took to one car show.
After using it for a bit I noticed a few issues that needed to be addressed
The rear axle/diff was from a 4x4 Mitsubishi pajero and have a ratio of 5-3 so the car was revving very high at cruising speed.
Also the auto box was making a whining noise.
So i decided to set about fixing these issues
First job was to remove the body to gain better access to the chassis
Sadly though the people that had built the car decided to weld the body to that chassis rather than bolting it!! thank!! wow lots of cutting and grinding and the purchase of a new plasma cutter finally saw me get the body off.
After removing the body and engine and old axle it soon became apparent that alot of work was needed to make the car how i wanted and to fix all the poor build issues that became apparent.
So i am now 6 months into the build and have done the following work-
stripped chassis down removing old welds and brackets
had gearbox fully rebuild
New axle purchased volvo 940 with 3-43 ratio (much better)
serviced engine and replaced oil sump gasket
cut out rear cross member ready for new one to go in with airbag brackets
fitted front air bags with custom built brackets and spacers
New wheels and tyres purchased
Had front wheel machined to fit hubs
Rebuilt front end with new bushes and bearings
new headlights (found some very cool ones)
built new dash is new autometer antique cream gauges
Started work on the body, cut out the rear floor ready for new 4 link setup which will be a bit longer and higher up to allow for air suspension travel.
New wheels are at the painters for some satin black the painter (my good friend) will also be fitting the tyres.
The new air ride kit has arrived 1/2" lines and bazooka solenoids so should be nice and quick.
There has been lots of work on the chassis to get it ready for air as i plan to lay the frame.
The engine has now been re united with the freshly built gearbox and fitted back in the car.
I am off the the prop specialists next week to get the correct flange fitted to the prop shaft.
By the time im finished and the car is back together i will have changed many things and re engineered many things to make the car better and also my own.
I will be removing the wheel arches to allow for full drop and give the car a more hardcore rat rod look.
Here are some progress pictures starting with how it looked when i purchased the car.
That's it for now, i will update again with more pics when i have done some more work.
I can only spend a few hours here and there as im self employed and very busy with work.
