Rat Rods Rule

While I understand that you got your feathers ruffled a little by the comments they posted, I really don't think it's cool to go on any other site just to **** people off. We on here haven't taken too kindly to guys from other sites coming on here just to muddy the water, so why should we do that? :)

One guy on there posted a pretty obvious statement:

It seems like such a simple concept: Traditional hot rods and customs. Yet so many guys come on here and say "check out my rat." This isn't a place for billet clad street rods, 4X4's, or import tuners either and they go, stop, and steer as well. If you want to build a "rat" and call it one then that's fine, have fun and enjoy it. The term and the philosophy just doesn't have a place here. Doesn't anybody lurk on this site anymore before they join up and start posting?

They have the right to want to keep their forum dedicated to any particular type of car they want and to run it as they choose. As an example, we on RRR get criticized a lot for our no-nonsense policy and that we will ban someone who doesn't want to play by our rules, yet we happen to like it the way it is. It is no different over there, if you don't want to discuss traditional hot rods, then stay away. It would be like going on a Chevy forum and talking about your Ford..........the members would have no interest in doing that.

Thank you, Don. I must be getting old because I don't understand the run around idea. I'm in it for the cars, never miss an opportunity to bust balls, but sometimes, enough is too much.-MIKE:cool:

I post stuff I know fits in over there. No point in getting folks all riled up. I do find it odd that they seem more upset by the term 'Rat Rod', tractor radiator shells and skulls than anything else. Lot's of cars that get compliments are pretty much rat rods without the worrysome items mentioned above.
There's so much volume of activity over there that if a thread starts getting nasty, it's easy to skip it, never look at it again and find plenty of other interesting stuff to review.
That site is like a country and RRR is like a community. I like RRR!

Not defending that site at all but I did see Ryan busting down on people who post with intentions of negativity regardless of the thread. It does make it a little easier to read some of the threads.

I guess if it really comes down to it, all of us have some prejudices about some forms of cars that don't interest us. For example, I think Donk cars are the worst thing ever, just pure crap. Yet, to the guys who like them they are cool. When I see one of these Donks my first thoughts are "boy, they really screwed up a nice car to make that POS." By the same token, I think that is what some HAMB members think when they see a Rat, that it could have been turned into something nicer if a little effort was put into it.

I'm not defending that thinking, just trying to put it into perspective a little. Oh, and in case any of you aren't familiar with Donk cars, here is a picture for you. We have a few of these running around in my neighborhood, and it isn't hard to guess the "profession" of the driver.:D

i'm not sure if i would be talking about the same site or not but i had a bad experience with one of those. i (like many others) are pretty new to the style and want to gain as much knowledge as possible. so i thougth "hey, whats the best way to learn but to ask questions?" i could not believe the negative feedback i recieved from mentioning the simple word "rat." i mean these comments were short of death threats. i understand standing up for something you firmly believe in... but this measure was way to far. especially for something as asking questions to gain knowledge. what really irked me was the fact that every single person (and i mean everyone) has started their interest with absolutely no knowledge what so ever and has gotten to their point by asking questions. and if they were incorrect with something, it was pointed out and i'm sure that it was respectfully. and i made a clear point that with the attitude that some of the guys displayed (and there were a couple that were very kind and respectful) towards new comers would just deter them from wanting to be apart of that "click" and to not want to have anything to do with the majority. this would result eventually with the "style of that rodding" deminishing greatly.

this is exactly why i belong to this forum and enjoy it so much. you guys are sensible, courteous and willing to give a helping hand for the love of 4 wheels more than just a certain style of rodding. and i am sure there may be a few rotten apple comments here but one thing stands... respect and a willing hand to a friend.

Damn those magic carpets!!!

Every forum has it's own rules and I typically don't go where I'm not wanted or don't fit in!
