They also provide free tv to seniors, less than 1/2 off their utilities, free prescriptions, pretty darn good if not great medical, give them a christmas bonus with their pensions and some other stuff that is rather interesting..... or so I am told by my pastor friend who lives in Scotland....what do we get? We have paid for a 't.v. licence' in England and probably the rest of Britain for years,many many years.
They have vans driving around to catch non payers.
The health system in effect is free and compared to a lot of countries extremely good but !!!!! the standard of living in some respects is well below North America and giving pensioners a bonus at xmas is no big deal considering they rip them off for the other 364 days of the year and the biggest negative is:-



They have very few V 8's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I bought gas when I was there last spring.... paid 88 pound for about 16 gallons of "petrol"..... was staying near Glen Eagles....I love Scotland but am always happy to return to the US of A.... the 19.5% taxes on goods certainly is a bit much... but I understand it pays for the services and such.....
