Just picked up a 61 White Super Power ex carlsbad nm garbage truck cab, grill, hood and fenders in hobbs,nm. I am currently living in west texas and working on the truck from a buddy's shop in hobbs. I am currently wanting to do a big block ford in the truck and a manual trans. Right now the cab and fenders are mocked up on a 48 chevy frame, to see how it looks with the straight front axle. Plan is to build the chassis ourselves and drop to the ground potentially with air bags all the way around or just the rear with a single spring on the front suspension. I would like to chop the roof on the truck, that to me secondary to getting the project running right now and would be my first attempt. I am thinking because it was a larger truck originally, i'd like to stick with a dual rear wheel set up and keep the spirit with the truck. Hoping to have a homemade bed on this thing when it is all said in done. I am playing around with several ideas. Perhaps a narrowed early ford style side type bed, narrowed flat bed with weathered wood, or just whatever eventually comes to mind. This will be my first rat rod after building several daily drivers and a pair of fox body mustangs. I am looking for a stock or slightly modded running ford 385 series big block, preferably a 460, if anyone is looking to sell one. A decent running engine for a decent price is what i am looking for and any four or five speeds that will mate up to it. I'd even be open to an early twelve valve cummins or idi motors and trans.

So of course there is an app for reducing the size of a picture on a smart phone. Here's the pics. Enjoy

Updates To project

Here are a few more pictures since I last signed in. I was able to find a '89 F350 for the donor truck. It had a 460 and a 5 speed. The plan was to cut the rear end out of the f350 and use it as the starting point on the frame. We are going to z it out to drop the cab closer to the ground. I haven't decided yet if i am going to cut the floor pans out of the cab and have it sit completely over the frame or not. Either way we are going to build the frame from where I cut the rear end out forward. So far my vision includes using an early ford style spindle and a 46" I-beam straight axle for the front end. I am really interested in doing a suicide style front end with the spring mounted behind the grill and utilizing a split wishbone style radius rod. Are there any threads on here that pertain to building split wishbone style radius rods out of tubing (is that even an option?), or suicide style front ends with split wishbones and a rear mounted spring?

Here are some pictures, as promised
