First off I'm new here. I been into rat rods my whole life, but one of my car loves has always been Corvettes. Had a '78 when I was young, it caught on fire, rebuilt it and bought a '96 (CE LT4/6speed) with the insurance money.
But now I'm reverting back to my original passion. I need to turn the wrench again. So I'm selling my '96 (interested? Contact me) for a '50s Chevy (or Cadillac if I get so lucky).
I'm a U.S. Marine, so as you can imagine money isn't too plentiful! Once the '96 goes to another new, loving owner I'm going to be in a serious hunt for a project car. My primary desire is a '55-'56 Chevy, but anything in the '50s would be amazing. Also, I always been a Cadillac lover, so any old Cadillac coming my way may trump anything else.
Is it reasonable to look for, say, a '55 Chevy with a solid body for around $3000? That's all I'm asking. I don't much care what the drivetrain situation is, but I've never really delved into body work, so I would ask for a midly surface-rusted body at worst. Any deep cancer would be rough with me. Anything else is just icing on the cake!
