Another thing I ran into the other day on my outing was a 70s class A motorhome. I guess it was hauled in on a DUI and eventually became the towing companies. Anyway it has a 440 with a thermoquad and is supposed to run good but the brakes are bad.It has decent 19.5 tires. The interior could be saved but is suffering from years of setting. It also has an Onan that is supposed to run. He wants $850. Is a good 440 worth that?

Make sure that it doesn`t have the funky heavy-duty cooling system, ie : huge water pump housing that flows coolant directly into the heads. If it does, you`ll have to swap heads, those are not desirable for hot rod use. If you have to swap heads and such then the $850 doesn`t look so attractive.

Yeah, put a '40's Dodge cabover cab and a deck, cool hauler potential. Or sell the engine to a guy with a Dodge 3 ton.

Thats really not a bad deal. Like what DonMan said, $750 is the lowest going rate for a complete 440. All the ones I see for sale nowadays seem to be out of Motorhomes.

You keeping it for a hauler?

Are you dropping it in a rat?

Or a car? If its a car the oil pan has gotta go, I would think.

I know guys that run them in their cars, a few have had to swap heads, but a set of 906 heads are $100 and a water pump is $80. Take the 727 tranny too. You may need new tranny lines, but I am not sure.
