I'm thinking about selling my '49 Chevy truck but don't know what I should ask for it. I see asking prices all over the place, but what does something like this actually sell for?

It's was a 3600 3/4 ton but the frame has been shortened to 110" wheelbase. An 8" Ford rear on S-10 rear springs and a Pacer crossmember up front. 305 with less than 5000 miles on a rebuild and a turbo 350. Vintage Air, tilt, cruise, power rack and pinion steering, power disc brakes. AM/FM/CD, electric wipers, Ron Francis Wiring, rear mounted gas tank.

It's a great driver but does need paint. I built it about 15 years ago and it has about 44000 trouble free miles on it.

Value

Hey OlBlue. I appraised classics, street rods, etc., locally for insurance companies for 15 years. Values vary locale to locale. Also, I read want ads, craigslit, etc....not sports...golf, that kind of stuff. This is only my opinion!!!!!! Around here, that little Chevy would probably sell for $12,500 to $18,500. Can't tell from pics how bad the paint is.....good lookin truck! It would be hard to build it for that.

Don't lynch me guys.....I said it is only MY opinion!

ADs are great trucks but plentiful. Yours looks like a great driver and obviously is. To be honest, the monochromatic look hurts it a little, kinda outdated IMHO. In todays soft market, I'd be surprised to see it bust 10g on an auction if it needs paint. Probably more like $7500-$8500 around here.
I'd suggest that you start watching as many as you can on ebay and see what the ones that actually sell will bring. What people are advertising them for don't mean squat.

Thanks for the input, guys. The biggest problem with the paint is I didn't get it to flow out very good to start with, and now it has quite a bit of road rash too. I think I'll take it to the GoodGuys show in Des Moines in a couple weeks and see if there is any interest. I've put more miles on my '36 in the last year than I have on this one in the last 5 years and thats no good for it. I would just like to find it a better home. Of course if I came home with pockets full of money I'm sure I could find another project and the build is the best part.

I know I`ll get flamed but if that truck is as detailed as it appears, smooth firewall and inner panels, interior done and air, in this area that`s a 15-20k truck all day long even sporting the monochromatic color scheme. A pair of chrome bumpers and a mirror would ease the look. We have several fat fendered trucks, Ford and Chevy and the market isn`t so soft on the AD trucks. Builders go for $4000 for a solid start with a title.
Don`t give it away. If the market is soft in your area just wait. It`s like the stock market and always recovers eventually.
Build one and see what you have in just materials without the full year of labor.
