wheel paint

i was using a strip wheel to take original paint of my '68 f100 wheel and i noticed that the base paint is a tougher than crap kind of paint. what is it? and it looked to have about 3 coats of paint total... from base to top coat. i dont want the factory finish but i would like to know that the paint i put on is going to bond good. thanks.

1968? Probably just old enamel.

I tell people this a lot...............If you know someone in the boat industry have them get you some "Awlgrip" paint. I use it a lot, great stuff. Big bucks but sometimes there is some "left over".
