I am building a 1930 model A sedan with a '53 merc flathead motor. I've been told to upgrade front suspension to '36-'48 wishbones, and to find a '47-'48 ford front axle. I have found a 1939 complete front suspension including brakes. What is the difference between the front axles? Is the '47-'48 stronger, or is there a difference?

Thanks,
Shawn

You DON'T want a '46-'48 axle. The perch bosses are very wide, which reduces the distance from the perch to the kingpin. This widens the spread of the wishbones, and when they are split it creates issues with the tires rubbing the bones while turning. Everything from the '39 axle will work fine for you. You will need a new spring and some miscellaneous pieces depending on your desired setup, but it's a good start.
