well, i wimped out and just ran my glasspacks off the headers, i gave up on the uber cool custom exhaust temporarily until i get a bit better, faster, and smarter at this fabrication thing. it still looks pretty good though, i'll have to snap some pics later for you guys. it's super quiet though compared to those open headers. sadly, it's not as snappy as it was with the open headers, but i think i can fix that with some tlc to the carb. i'm still pretty happy with it though, expecially now that i can drive it without gassing myself with exhaust fumes or killing my ear drums. :D

Sometimes you just have to step away from things Joe. I wouldn't give up though, you'll get it done, Just give it a rest and attack it again at a later time. In the interim, just enjoy the progress that you have made and do some burnouts.

Exhaust can be a huge difference in performance. I had side pipes on my Corvette that had a glass pack type muffler inside. However, since the tube running through the glass pack was only 2 inches, it really choked the big block. When ever I would run the car, I took the sidepipes off. Eventually, I took the side pipes off and went with a Hooker competition header and 2 1/2 tubes with the old corvair turbo type muffler.
Nowadays, with 3-4 inch tubes and Flowmaster mufflers, there's almost no difference in performance between open and closed headers. Don't know if you remember Groucho, but going from 2 1/2 inch to a 3 inch exhaust, he picked up 4/10ths in the quarter mile.

In addition to what Gastrick said ( he's right on the money ), it takes time to get the hang of some things. Everyone here kept at the fabrication thing & got better as they went. I'm sure most of us still have probs with stuff that are new to us. (raises hand) Keep Gastrick's advice in mind & keep practicing. You'll get it!

thanks for the pep talk guys :D, i'm glad i only did what i did instead of running the whole deal, as I was rather suprised by the diffrence in power :(. I may go with a different glasspack or muffler when i redo it. on the plus side.....it still burns the tires :D, the great thing is that the kickdown cable is broken, i belive the timing is off, and i still need to tune the carb. all things on next weekends to do list :D
