    48 Willys....Project 4Low

I have been doing some more work on it lately but not a whole lot. Im still waiting on my main gear for my t-case so I can get my overdrive in and get that all buttoned up. I have also taken out the tie rod that I bent up. I wasnt so happy with it and the strength was lacking so after my...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

I'm laying them slightly over each other one pull at a time. I have my opinions too on the strength as I have tested them compared to solid beads, but to each there own. I like the look much better since I dont plan on painting it. Ive had my Lincoln welder now for many years and never...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Been trying to get things with the transfercase done. Got the twin sticks modified to fit the stock hole location. Measured for a driveline which will need some clearancing under the body to work. Still waiting the right gear for my overdrive setup to mate to my T-14 transmission. My puppy...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Been working the Willys a couple hours here and there. Got the Tcase back from the shop and stuck it in. Mocked up my shifter sticks with a little cutting, bending and welding they fit and work well. Braced and welded some spots that were a little lacking in strength. Heater core is bad so...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Got a couple hours to work on it tonight so I thought I would post up what I did. Got the radiator from my bro so I washed it out real good then started mocking it in position to drill holes and bolt it up. He took the radiator and cut the tanks off and shortened it up then re-tiged the tanks...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

I actually purchased a set of axles for this but that would have required a different bolt pattern wheel or adapters which would have cost me more money. It would have also meant different gear ratio's from the front end unless I swapped the front end as well which I ran into the huge problem...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Here is a quick shot of my trottle linkage. kinda hard to see, but I used some all thread, fender washers, a brake line clip, and a "W" for willys that I cut out of some sheet steel to make it.

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Thanks guys. Ive been fighting with a transfercase issue. The stock Dana 20 T-case is a center output up high with a single stick engagement, and I want a lower output with a tripple stick. I want to be different and one off so I am making things hard for myself yet again with this project...

"Secret Willys Revival" (My chopped '53)

Read through this whole thread and wow what a story. I have a long family history story with my 62 willys pickup. Super short story, I rode in the back down the road as a little kid, then dad sold it, then years and years later I saw it for sale and bought it to restore and still have it. Im...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Thanks guys for the compliments, Im trying to do my best with the resources I have. Im not going to cap them as of yet but I do plan on putting some fish plates on both sides of where they join and maybe a cross bar or gusset under the weld where the two meet. Im trying to build it as safe as...

    Washington State checking in

Hey guys, Im not super new to the forum since I have lurked for a little while. I am new to the rat rod scene though and have already dove head first into my build. Im currently building a 48 willys pickup which I am calling project 4Low. Its based off the concept of the polar opposite of my...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Been busy with my new Chocolate Lab puppy. I cant belive how much attention those little squirts need so I have put the rat on the side burner till I get my dog fence in and puppy prepping done. I am almost finished with that stuff. My brother is making a radiator for me from a scrap radiator...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Got most of the brake lines installed and bent up, just need a few more random things to finish it off so I can put fluid in. Put the front clip back on and did the finish wiring to the headlights and turn signals. So far everything is working great. I even got the original hood latch to work...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

There is a local 4wheel drive shop that specializes in the older 4 wheel drive rigs and they make a near bolt on kit for around 500 bucks. It comes with all I need including new bearings, seals, backing plates, calipers, brake hose, longer wheel studs and so on. I was finding it hard to put...

    48 Willys....Project 4Low

Well after a few hours of cut and bend and weld and bend and cut and well you get the idea, I had a set of pedals that I think will work. I now need a skinny gas pedal. Good thing I dont have fat feet or I may not be able to drive this thing. I also snaped a few more photos of the tunnel work...
