    Howdy.

Hm. I'm not sure why. Thanks. I think I'll leave it. I'd like a little pinstriping if I can find someone nearby who does it. I also think a rattle can job on the wheels and some chrome polish on the hubcabs would look cool.

    Howdy.

Thanks, man. I love it, too. Most of the original interior is there. There are some cancerous rust areas here and there but overall it's pretty solid. I don't know yet if I want to leave it as-is or if I want to start customizing it by giving it the primer look, messing with the interior, et...

    Howdy.

And here's the bus. This last winter I: *removed all of the Bondo and rust bubbles, *sanded the existing crappy paint job, *painted it with Rustoleum using rollers, *scrounged together some cabinets, *made a pull-out bench seat/bed out of scrap wood, and *made the roof rack out of 2x4s, and an...

    Howdy.

Okay, I finally have some pictures. This is my double cab, which is my favorite. I drive it everywhere and yes, I make my wife ride in the middle of the bench seat. (She humors me because she's cool like that.) I've thought that having it lowered would look cool. I've also...

    My First Attempt At Painting

There is a lot of good advice here. I tried sanding a small section yesterday and using Rustoleum's "Automotive Primer." Anyone else tried it? It sounds like I should some epoxy primer to do the best job. I bet the Napa store by my house carries some. Thanks everyone.

    Part way through? Why?

    My First Attempt At Painting

Ok, so I've finally made a decision on how to repaint the bus. I'm using Rustoleum rattle cans, Hunter Green in satin finish. I did two sections this weekend. One section was sanded down to bare metal because I had some body work to do. There was lots of Bondo and I didn't want to mess...

    Will this work? (Paint Question)

Thanks streetrodman. If I decide to put a clear coat over the final primer color, will this be to protect the primer or will it also help protect the metal underneath it all? Thanks.

    Will this work? (Paint Question)

I just can't see forking over a few thousand dollars to repaint my bus. I've been all around thinking of different options. Last week I stripped my rear bumper and primed it with a DupliColor rattle can, a brown/reddish sandable primer. I love the color. My wife, who appreciates my...

I need to get some pictures, I agree. I've been fixing some recent body damage and I always tell myself I should take before and afters. Thanks for the greetings. So you guys around. -Justin

Yours might be a rat rod................................

I've been lurking around this site and haven't yet figured out if my VW bus qualifies me as the owner of a rat or not. Do any of these count for anything?: If your window winder is a pair of Vise Grips. If your seat covers are old blankets that passengers are scared to sit on because they...

    Rattle Can Paint Jobs

Man, all of these look great. Is there a lot of prep work involved? I have a VW bus that I'm considering rattle-caning but I have no idea how to start. Just sand the old paint until it's smooth, tape off the trim and spray away? If I want to use primer but don't want future rust, could I...

    Howdy.

I found this site by way of searching how to do a rattle can paint job on my '71 VW bus. The paint that's on it currently is chipped and I've had to do a couple of rust/dent repairs. I'm just not real excited about the idea of an expensive, "perfect" paint job. I've always loved rat rods and...
