200 Il6 rod barring play

good compression ,started and ran moter sounded fine tore down just to do gaskets, and seems to have excessive movment at crank, is any ok on these 6s..

just where is the play you are talking about? up and down? Front to back?
front to back is crank end play that is determined by the thrust brg and should only be .005 to maybe .010 Is it from a stick or automatic?

if it's just in the rods.... same Questiion up and down or front or front to back?

rod side play should be .006 to .012 [front to back] you can check that with a feeler gauge. up and down should only be .001-.003 and really not be able to feel that play

its going to machine shop, I found the numbers I needed on classicinlines, thanks yeah i new when i felt it I was just kidding my self, Bad thing is I have not even a clue how much to expect never built a ford or a i6 with 7 main caps?

its up and down, and side play I cANT believe I didnt hear anything! when I test fired it

I have a 1981 pickup with a 300.Bought it in 1992 It was rattling when I bought it.I drove it for years,until I got ashamed of how it looked ,rusty,cracked paint,etc,and parked it behind house,where it still sits.Rattling never got any worse.Guess some 6cyl engines just rattle.

Hey I would check Craigslist for another 170, 200, 250 before you have that rebuilt. There are always guys pulling 6s out of mustangs & falcons and basically giving them away.

I bought a great 200 & 3spd for $300. I put a new distributor and rebuilt the carb and it now powers my speedster (avatar). Great engine.

I can't imagine getting that engine rebuilt is going to be any cheaper than a chevy 350.
