I just quit going on KB because post would disappear. I wasn't being a smartass or anything or saying anything derogatory about anyone's rod. I mean if they dig it cool, if I like it I'll say so, if not I keep it to myself. The only time I might say something if it looks like what's proposed is gonna get someone killed from something fabricated badly. Not only that, but I was following some very cool thread's (Like Donut's 50's fenderless truck) and then the whole thread was gone and they'd offer no reason and even in some cases even acknowledge it had even existed. I'm not privy to what someone might be saying to Admin in private, but didn't see anything that warranted some of the ban's or post disappearing. They're Admin has a very narrow focus on what he allows or likes and tends to press his views on others. Hey if I wanted that sort of censorship or attitude I'd go hang out on that 'traditional' rod site whose name is something you'd make a sandwich out of. :p:p

Its kind of coincidental I see this post here. About two years ago I got bashed pretty good over there for presenting a present day notion about rat rodding using what is really available in the junkyards today. I believe it was a guy named Ron who directed me over to this site. WHEW! I've been reading here ever since. I started posting up here now as I start an old iron build that seems to "fit" with the other builds.

With that said I have also been browsing the other site the last two weeks or so looking for parts and ideas mostly. I see most guys building their rides over there, not buying. What did surprise me is the that there is a 1994 Viper, an 80's Corvette and an early 70's Datsun Lowrider pickup all on the board with running threads. hhhhhhmmmmm? Things must be changing!?

A few guys mentioned in the mini-truck thread their own surprise that the thread was being left to survive since its not old enough or American made. I think if they are sticking to a strict profile of what is presented and discussed on the site they ought to be consistent because it ****es people off, shows a type of favoritism and generally sends the wrong message with that inconsistent management. Or maybe they are loosening the reigns a little to accomodate new blood and ideas? **** changes over time and maybe its happening there? I don't know but for now lets just say I'm watching. The glass is half full, not half empty.

Seems much of the b.s. that goes on within these types sites, motorcycle forums included, is the inconsistentency of the admin. If you find many people coming to a site posting on a specific subject not within the forum guidelines then perhaps that's a message as well. Maybe these people are looking for a place to go? Its easy to send them on their way, but maybe opening a single section to address their profile of build is better than sending them packing? Thechopperunderground.com is a very good example of this type of success. There are several pockets within that site and you can clearly see certain people only post in their own area of interest so I know this idea works. And that site is huge now with lots of traffic.

Is there a site that supports threads of people building rat rods out of more modern cars/trucks? I had no where to go with my blazer. This is a good example of a group without a home. And anyone building a modern rat really isn't interested in being on a mini-truck site or some lowrider forum. Just my 2 pennies.

Personally, I'd like to see it!

We have a few guys show up on RRR with late model stuff. I could be wrong, but I don't think they were asked to leave. All have been heartily supported by most of the members. Flatbroke has a 70's Chevy truck, there was a guy with a s-10, a BMW that was solid rust, among others. Some get a polite opinion or two about their ride not really being a rat, but no firestorms like other sites. We don't get too uptight about it here. RRR even has a Muscle Car Section!

That is really strange, not meeting the membership requirements.[S I can understand getting banned for bad behavior, but what possibly could a person do to NOT meet membership requirements on ANY forum??????? That is Bizarre!

The only thing I can think of is that your email address or something else you filled out had some little error in it that kicked it back. I mean, what kind of screening process does any forum have? I know Tripper keeps an eye on unwanted 12 year olds from Nigeria who like to sell us Viagra and plant food, but that is different.

Very weird. [S[S

Exactly! I don't get it. What requirements? At first I tried to enter a gmail address but it said that address was banned, then I entered my road runner ISP email and it accepted it. A few days later I got the rejection letter. I replied back to the rejection letter, but havent heard back.

Now KB is having a big to do about having an O/T section. You have to ask to be in and if you say anything bad about the admin you're banned for life and the O/T section will be closed. What kind of crazy stuff is that?

I have asked questions about late models and I haven't been banned fromRRR! If they don't want you at KB then don't go. Their loss not yours! You won't find a better site than RRR anywhere! Ask all the questions you want and someone will answer them without a lot of sarcasm. God knows I've asked my share of dumb questions, but at the time they weren't dumb to me.....CR

That is absolutely what is cool about this forum. Although it's main intent was to relate to rat rods, most of the people here have a diverse assortment of cars and we all get along just fine. I come here as much for the people as for the cars.

Look at our fearless leader Bob for example. He has his rats but he also has his big block muscle car that terrorizes poor innocents who have vanity plates. :D

I can understand why some forums want to remain brand specific, or mainly about one era of car, but this place is more like hanging out at the gas station with your buddies.............we talk about everything from women, to pets, to things that are going on in our lives............and occasionally about cars.:p

Too Funny :) I went over to KB this morning to see if it had really gotten that bad. Checked out the first post. Someone wanted to see pics of your favorite Rat Rod. Before it made two pages Admin was treating people to find another site. [S Rat Rod Rules is the best site ever :)

I agree... I like to hang out with all my AADD friends that know the only true meaning of happiness is havin' more projects around than one could ever finish in 3 or 4 lifetimes! Need I name names?!?

FYI: AADD = Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (my ex told me about this one! :D)

I've posted a lot on the KB, don't much anymore. Haven't been booted--yet..

I believe the deal is--It's gone 'business' and is having some identity and management problems. I like business, and I value the entertainment that the KB has provided, and the RRR provides, and fully support anyone in this field if they try and make it pay. There is alot of work and expense in this forum thing, and they provide a great deal of entertainment. I believe it has a $ value to it, and I don't expect it to be free.

The RRR is a mature, well managed forum, with numerous skilled, functional, 'real world' members. That provides a valuable, high quality experience, and I appreciate the opportunity to read this forum and contribute if I can. The KB (and other forums) don't provide the same quality experience.

I think the KB owners were bodyshop operators that have ended up in the entertainment business, and they are kinda 'struggling'. They seem to be reasonably intelligent and will probably get on track and make it a success. I'd like to see them get some 'entertainment' management involved, I think it would help them alot. I hope they succede--their success is all our success--we all do about the same thing.

Now, THAT is the pot calling the kettle black Bob!:D:D[cl

I resemble that remark, too!!!!!!:D

Heres what I find odd about the whole thing. What I like isnt what everyone else likes. but on this site there are sub forums. If you like muscle cars, there is a place for that here. Really, How can an admin on any site say what is and isnt meeting the criteria to join the forum. Especially something even the members cant really agree on the criteria for, such as rat rods. I can tell you what I think, and I do, but my views are somewhat narrow, and would leave some of the best builds out. (v-8 only, no i-6, only American, pre 1960, only 2 doors or pickups.) Now we see why I am not in charge. The point of that rant being that NO ONE can say who qualifies to join a forum. Even guys who dont own a rat can join to drool or to learn. Keeping people out seems to be self defeating.

kb

heck..if you think it hard over there...never try to hang with the guys on roughrodders.....they will tear you a new one...KB was always good to me...sometimes this guy named "revrend grimm" would be an internet tough guy and start crap...but the kb was my first rat site...i did learn alot.....i rember seeing this site posted over there..i checked it out and never looked back
