can you shoot clearcoat over a signature?

im wanting to get a dash autographed by a few actors and i was going to let them sign it with a sharpie then clear coat over it. can i do this or will it mess up the signatures ?

Do a test and see. Write something with a sharpie and clear over it.

Some sharpies don't get along with some clears. test for sure.

Yes, you can. Just make sure the first couple coats of clear are very light and let it dry between coats...

I got away with clearing over a sharpie. The detail in the skull was done with a sharpie and cleared. But like others said try it on something else first.

I'm an airbrush artist, and I had a customer wnt a tattoo type design done on a very small piece. I used a sharpie to get some of the outlines and such. Like was said, verylight coats and it works very well.

i got the dash signed im going to wait a few weeks before i clear over it.
"fonz" "john milner" "candy clarke" signed it. i got pics on my build page

Yes you can clear over sharpie just make sure the 1st couple coats are light my buddy did his entire engine bay with a sharpie then cleared over the whole thing and he has done it many times before too

My Son Don got an autographed piston shift knob from Paul LeMatt, and had it on his desk. His GF cleans everything in sight and windexed it..........yep, name came off ! He was not real happy about that one.

One shot makes an acrylic clear. It won't mess with the sharpie and it's U.V. protective, but after a few years the signature will fade on it's own.
