--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I posted this on the builds thread,, but thought it should be here instead"

Hey guys,, anybody out there ever chopped a 50 chev fleetline, or simular car,,, we are needing a few pointers on the process , especally the rear window and trunk area.
Plan on a chassis swap also,, just not sure what chassis would work best,, someone mentioned a 80"s Monte carlo on a link somewhere

thanks in advance,,

chop

Bill Hines chopped one a few years ago at the KKOA spectacular. check either ck deluxe or old school rodz for article.best frame to use is a 79-83 i belive GM metric. Like a malibu or cutlas. problem is that wheelbase is only 108 so you need to stretch it 7 inches

Yeah I saw a link for that swap'' someone also mentioned a S-10,, long box or extended cab

The a-bodies (78-81) where re-badged g-bodies (82-88) and used the same frame. An El Camino is a stretched g-body frame.

El Camino - 117.5" WB

The cars are 108" WB

All had track width of 58.5" front and 57.8" back.

Here is a site I used to find track width's. http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/ Not all cars are listed and not all specs are given, but it helped. Everybody lists wheelbase, but track widths are hard to find on the net.

Also when measuring track width, it's from the center of th tire, so keep in mind that tire offset/backspacing is part of it.
