So I have a really stupid question......

I have chrome bumpers that are original for my car and of course there is rust on them......instead of rechroming them how hard is it to just paint them instead? Has this ever been done? How do I get the remaining chrome off?

Thanks ahead of time!

Chrome is very hard to get completely off by sanding or blasting. The best way to do it is to take them to a chrome shop and have them dechromed.

Paint generally doesn't fare well when painted over chrome on things like bumpers that take some road abuse. At least that's been my experience.

Steel wool to get the scum film off, them scratch them up. Chrome will scratch with sandpaper, 100 or even 80 grit. Press hard, take you time and get the whole surface. Get anything flaky or crusty off of course. Light coats at room temp. Good quality paint like rustoleum.
