'Vette brake specialist!
I never did give you guys an update on my brakes.......
my car has been sitting since that thread. i'm letting it run right now but it's still not driveable .
i got my calipers all rebuilt and i was excited and happy, went to put them on they leaked everywhere. i did something wrong but i'm not sure what. i probably should have done some more research instead of winging it. in fact, i think a shop manual for this car is on the to get list. anyways, after running through the options....
$40 bucks for more rebuild kits or spend time trying to salvage the ones i just put in? buy a shop manual-car sits forever while i screw around with it
tow it to a shop? pay them and still have old brake calipers that feature a leakage prone design......but work for now
buy cheap rebuilts at the local parts house, still out decent chunk of change but not to bad, oh wait-still have that leakage prone design......
fine! i'll just buy the really good performance calipers...wait...that's $1400...
my best solution was four brand new o-ring style (different then the lip seal design) calipers with no core fee, powder-coated red (that caliper paint sucks-as soon as i got brake fluid on them it smeared everywhere), and ss flex lines for all four wheels. I figure if only two online retailers sell "better" then stock brakes the stock ones must work pretty well. It set my driveway savings back $740 smackers all together but at least i'll have good brakes i don't have to worry about for a while. They are also buying my old calipers back for $100 so i get some of it back. The sad thing is i'm still waiting. they should come in next week tuesday or wednesday. Once i get that all done i'll do a full flush and switch over to dot4 brake fluid. then i can enjoy my car until the next project
