Greetings from south central FL.
I work on boats for my day job. Try to go fishing or diving when I can, and then there are the projects. Two of them are my brothers cars. He has a 79 Trans that mostly needs the interior, and a 67 GTO clone that is a complete frame off, and the frame is still off. Both of those cars are very nice, or will be when completed. My project is a 51 F1. At this point in time it is in pieces, but I have all the body parts and most of it is in very nice condition. The bed is rough. The front fenders are rougher. I have had the F1 for maybee 5 years. I am getting the itch. Originaly I was putting a Ford 460/429 in it. The frame is boxed and has a mustang ll type crossmember in it. I have no front suspension parts. The problem with putting any of the ford motors that I have is that they are all in baskets and need total rebuilds. So what do you think about this combo? 413/440 torque flite 8, jag rear. Both dodge motors run, the 440 will smoke the dullies on the old motorhome that it in.

Welcome. The 440 would be cool. It's not quite as heavy as the 429/460 and you have a lot more options if you're planning on building it. I ran an old heavy mud racer years ago, with a stock 440 w/ nitrous. It ran good for two seasons, before it started spitting piston pieces out the headers. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Welcome to the gang... I like ancient iron too! [ddd[ddd[ddd

The 440 is in a 76 motor home. I bought it for 500.00 thinking we would use it to see the races in Gainesville FL. When I went to take possession of it there were people living in it. They thought they were safe because it had been towed to the site, had been there a few years, and thought that it did not run, HA. All you need is fuel air and spark, wires in the right order, oil in the trans, air in the tires. You should have seen the look I got when that thing came to life. They moved out, and I moved on through the garden over the fence and down the road. I bought because it had nice tires. Didn't much care about the "360" until I tried to get the carb freshened up. 360 did not come with a thermoquad only the 440. I was so happy. Then I paid 86 bucks to have the ugliest 1970 motor home in the world towed to my shop. Supposedly it had a 440 also. Wrong. This monster had a 413 industrial. Both came with automatics. No clue if it runs. Does turn over by hand, so much stuff (beer caps, birds nest, dead rat) in the carb I would be afraid to start it. Neither motor has over 30K miles on the odometer. Lots of possibilities
