OK, I recently needed to remove a the escutcheons and handles from a door to get to the window crank assembly.
I've used screw drivers in the past and gotten by.
Well I had a couple of old caulking guns laying around and *******ized one to make a removal tool.
I simply snipped the end of the gun on each side and flattened it out. If you tack the plunger to the back of the gun you can use your stomach (or in my case... gut) to push against the spring loaded escutcheon, and use your paws to run a small drift and hammer on the pin.
