Ok I went to the vintage tool page that was posted in the links section. I have a Spencer and Billings end wrench. On one end it is marked 3/8 oc on the other is 1/4u.s.s 1/4 oc.

What's up with the oc and u.s.s.? Did this pre-date sae? And if so when did sae become the standard?

cycledog, google- " Billings&Spencer " or click on comcast.net, quite a site loaded w/info, a quick look stated that USS was used before we adopted SAE. Quite a piece of American history that wrench, enjoy the site.
