Ford engine numbers

I got a free 289 the other day. The tag on the front of the block reads

289 E 68 17
E28 CN 236-J

The stamped number on the top of the block at the back reads.

What is it out of? Anybody have a good book. All the sites I went to suck as far as ford numbers go. I already know it is a 68 six bolt bell housing. Some more interesting info would be what I am after. Thanks

Ford only installed the 289 for the first couple months of the 68 model year, then went to the 302.
Woody's fairlane site has a good decoder, I found all the info on my 63 Fairlane there.

The engine is a 1968 289 2V assemble on May 28 in the Windser engine plant

If you get the casing number that is located on the block at the rear right side in the area of the starter it would help.
