my buddy and me built a 383 for his s10. i dont remember all the specs but we used what we had for heads. their dart pro 1 230's with 2.08-1.60 valves. 64 cc chambers.the comp ratio is 11.1-1. i got a feelin we are usin more head than we need. what if any is the down side to havin too much head on this engine?

No downside that I know of. Too much compression, too much carb, or too much cam, yes. But too much breathing...no. You may not be able to take advantage of their full potential, but I don't see an issue with using them. Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on anything.

That much compression, seems like the only down side is the cost of hi octane fuel, or the use of octane booster. Should make for a helluva strong small block either way.

383 is going to need everything it can suck in
Problem with "too much head flow" is in relation to ram tuning.
many of the problems associated with too much cam and too much head become less of a problem as the displacement of the engine increases.
