Ok, realistically - what does it cost to get a solid running hemi. I hear that its a rich mans game at that point, and know of people who have $15K+ into them. Without going crazy - what are we talking here? I'm not referring to the deal of a lifetime hemi's, and not talking about a gem of an engine worth more than my entire car - what is an honest average for buying a solid running hemi?

Man, if I was going to put 15k into an old motor...

I'd pay a bit more and get a crate hemi.....528 HEMI Crate Engine - 610 HorsePower & 650 Ft. Lbs. Torque
Price: $18,100.00
Can get the 426 HEMI Crate Engine 465 HorsePower 486 Ft. Lbs. Torque
Price WAS: $15,125.00
Price: $14,500.00 BPE Mopar Fan Bailout Price

bouchillonperformance.com but I'm sure that 45K will get you a 900 horse all aluminum with blower....:D

I built my 54 HEMI for under $5,000 complete. Junkyard engine, then added new carbs, intake, cam, lifters, pushrods, pistons, rings, bearings, valves, valve job, headers, oil pump, Joe Hunt mag and the lightweight aluminum stuff for front of engine. A little shopping, but most from Hot Heads.
BUT then again, you could bolt a set of hemi valve covers on a SBC and be like the other wannabes. Saw 3 of these at the Rumble last year. Chevies wanting to be HEMIs. Ever see a HEMI wanting to be a chevy?
