This truck and I have a history. My uncles father bought it brand new in 1950. My father and my uncle used to cruise this truck when they were in high school. Then my father, uncle, cousin and I tore it apart in about 1994 and started to build a hot rod out of it. This truck was bad ass for the 360 that was in it back then, it saw the road for about 20 mins for testing and then was literally put in the barn and forgot about. Well things happen, people move away, family looses touch with one another. After my time in the Navy I moved back home to find my cousin also moved back home, and brought the truck with him. I have been trying to get this truck back for 10 years now, he called me up the other day and made me an offer i couldn't refuse, get his 97 Suburban running and he would give me the 50... 20 mins later I was loading the 50 up on the car trailer.

This poor truck has been butchered alot on the front end, at one time it had an aspen clip put on (crooked) right now it has a gasser straight axle under it, right now Im not sure on what direction I am going to take with the front end. A quick run through the parts inventory nets me all the door hardware is missing....all of it.. Oh well, here are a few pics of her sitting in her hole waiting for her spot in the shop

I cant wait to start working on her again and get her back on the street where she belongs.

Gotta love 'em. I bought my '62 for $500, threw a battery and some gas in it and drove it on the trailer. It had been sitting in a rancher's field for 16yrs! Built Ford Tough!

oh yeah, I saw the slick when I was heading into town for some feed for the birds, stopped, got the number, called the guy 4 hours later. He said he had somebody there looking at it, first person with cash takes it. I took off to his house with cash in hand, the other guy came back as I was driving off with it, brakes were way out of adjustment on it lol, but it made it home and is now my daily driver when I dont feel like driving my Galant, but the Galant is looking more and more better because it has a 4 cylinder in it and not a Y Block like the slick.

sweet, thanks. I cant wait till I get back to work and start collecting a pay check (1 more week) then I can start getting the parts im missing, in the long run for the door hardware it will be cheaper for me to get 2 new doors and strip them for parts.

Cool truck.

In regards to door hardware, I just used bear claw latches off a 70's GM car. Easy job to swap them in, and way easier than finding original replacements (for me anyway).

I have heard that with a torquey motor these frames flex enough to pop the doors open with the original latches, but I haven't seen it for myself.

Thanks for the heads up, I do have another set of doors on their way for it though. I didnt get to do any work on her today, but I did get the old dastun yanked out from beside the garage, still need to haul off the scrap sitting next to the garage and set up my "paint booth" / carport and then move her over there, she used to be buried and you couldnt see her from where I took this pic.
