Gauges

Temp gauge normally has 12VDC, and grounds through the temperature sensor (gauge type, not idiot light). Other 2 connections may be light and ground for the bulb. Oil pressure should have 12VDC and ground through the oil pressure sensor (also, gauge type). Generator gauge should be wired in the middle of the charging line from the alternator or generator to the battery. It measures the charging current going out to the battery.
Gauge type sensors for oil pressure and temperature have varying resistance depending on how hot (temp) or how much pressure (oil). Idiot light sensors just switch form NO (normally open) to Closed when the temp gets too high, or when the oil pressure gets too low. We used to say the lights were there to tell you why your engine died, not to prevent it from happening.
You will need to get the proper gauge type sensors for your gauges.
Hope this helps!
