I am looking to buy an axle for my build.

Other than size. Whats the difference between 2" and 2 1/4" Bosses.

Is one better than the other when sourcing parts?

I know that the 2" will accept 36 bones but other than that I dont know of any differences.

Also I am on the fence on the axle.

Whats a better axle?

You're right, the only difference is that 1/4 inch. Just make sure you get radius rods [bones] that fit.
As far as which brand is best? I think they are all about the same just buy the best price. And personally I don't care for tube axles, too stiff and won't flex and can bind with the radius rods. If you bend a tube you've probably ruined it, [IMO] you can straighten an I beam axle.
