I get old and lazy. I just paint flame on one of my motorcycle tanks and was thinking of using blue pin strip tape instead of get the bruch out and doing by hand.

My question is. Did any one ever use the tape and paint clear over it? Will it hold up or should I just take the time and paint the strip on.?

Factories do it...

Factories do it all the time. Check out just about any car with "pinstriping". Some are on top of the clear and I've seen some under the clear. Not sure if I'd try it on something with lots of twists and curves like your flames, though... I've done it on some repairs where I didn't want to hassle with trying to locate the correct tape and was able to clear right over the striping. No problems yet...

i have a car in the shop right now that has some vinyl under the clear. on your application i would hand stripe, it looks a lot better in the long run and you dont have to worry about it.
