Looks good. this is exactly what I want to do to my cab also...

thanks i will be sure to post some more pics as i go along the chop aint nowhere close to being finished but its slowly getting there and i dont regret doing it at all but i highly recomend buying or making some sheetmetal clamps like these butt welding clamps i just built 4 of them and i plan on making a whole bunch more they work great
 
nothing new done to the blackburn other than some brainstorming but heres some pics of the powerplant i plan on runing.

for some reason it only had 10psi of compression in 3 cylinders and 0 in one i didnt bother checking the rest of them. but i cant really see why it would have such low compression "other than the cylinder with 0 has a stuck valve" im thinking the valve seats are just to rusty and the valves arent seating all the way :confused: does anyone else have any ideas?

i got some more work done over the weekend i got the chop closer to being finished i got to where i could remove the braces and i sat in it and made vroom vroom noises

nothing to major to update as of now but i did manage to straighten and paint some of the jailbars in the grille. i think primer grey will look a whole lot better than two diffrent colors of white

You are likely right about the valves not seating properly causing the low compression, but I’d get it magnafluxed as well. I’ve been surprised before on some cylinder heads, looked good visually but had several hairline cracks.
Really like the work you’re doing so far, keep at it.
 
got a few things done today i tryed to fill in the gap in the roof the best i could but the weather wouldnt stay the same for more than 5 minutes one miunte it would be sunny and warm the next the wind would blow and it would rain so i ended up in the little shed doing little things

then i did a little dental work i need to weld some bolts to these so i can bolt them back up to the grille

thats better a bit crude but im sure denists back in its day were about the same. i know what your thinking with dental skills like these why do i even go to the denist? the answer is i like to stimulate the econmy lol
 
got the gap in roof filled today i still got lots of welding and grinding to do but i think i will move forward and mount this thing on the frame and deal with the rest as i go

no pics to update but i did manage to knock the old cab mounting brackets off the yota frame and make a few measurements to see how this thing is going to fit i might have to modify the steering linkage to fit around the flatties oil pan but i think i can handle it. im getting stoked i cant wait to have it sitting on a chassis instead of a home made tilt bed trailer lol
 
got the cab mounted on the frame today then i pulled it back off so i could arc weld the cab mounts and brace them a little. still more work to do[;)

Dude, are you ARC welding the body metal or using flux core wire MIG ?? :confused: Do yourself a favor and use a gas MIG, it will make your job so much easier and save you a ton of time welding and grinding after. The chop proportions look good tho, keep at it..[P

im using flux core on the body but im arc welding all the frame stuff my mig is just a little guy. my biggest problem with going to gas is my mig has to be mobile im using my grandpas shop and i dont like leaving my welder over there because stuff always gets barrowed over there and usally doesnt come back or it comes back in peices. this why i cant use the torch somone left the oxygen on :mad:.

Something that will help you as much as anything is find yourself a piece of copper plate and use it as a backing for your welds, it'll help with the burn thru. These are mine, one of these is 2x3x1/8 and the other is 3x12x1/8 [;):cool:

yeah somone told me about that the other day i havent tried it yet but i will soon thanks for the advice i need it lol

no work done to blackburn today i took a little break to spend time in sun with a fishing pole i caught a decent rainbow and a few smaller ones but i let most of them go

i have one question on my cab mounts i only used one rubber bumper thing per mount i built. will this be fine? id imagine it might be a little more shaky but i don't it should hurt anything should it?

my arc welds aren't looking the best i use to be a lot better with it but i haven't practiced in a long time

also i cut a piece of cooper tubbing off my camper (it was leaking anyway) and flatend it out with a hammer well see how it works
 
well today i noticed that my cab mounts are all screwy and the cab wasn't straight so i measured back from the shocks on the frame and it was a FULL INCH off! on the right side so i ended up cutting 3 of my cab mounts and moved the cab a little and measured it 5 times for all kinds of spot then i tacked the cab mounts in place and measured it again and again then i re-welded ever thing it ain't pretty but it should do the job

then i bolted my nose clip back together sort of then i test fit it. looks like i will need to notch the frame or the radiator support to get it to fit just right also put a runing board on just for kicks
