Well jr's decided that he wants to build an early 50's chevy truck...Rat Rod Style:)[cl....so he's been searching for a canidate for his build....we put alot of feelers out there and found a truck around Prince Albert that looked like it would fit the build....it's a five window, basically complete with box and endgate and was realitively cheap $250...good buy I thought even with the $150 gas bill to go get it and I got to spend a day with my son and he even bought me lunch:)....he has been talking about this for awhile and has plans to put a s10 chassis under it with a 350/350 combo cause he has one laying around...plans are to slam it into the weeds, painted smothies, mexican blanket interior and retain as much as the original patina on the body as possible...his goal is to keep the build cost around $2500[S...possibly...he already has a motor:D...m word and tranny and has a line on an s10 for cheap....anyone build one of these with this setup and know the does and dont's.....We went to Prince Albert today and picked it up....Roads were wet with lots of salt and made a mess of everything so once we got back we washed all the salt off of it as well as the 40 yr's of dirt that was on it....I'll keep you posted as progress continues....lookin forward to workin with jr.

We stopped at the carwash and spent $10 washin the salt and dirt off the old truck...the drivers door had been changed at one time and was white but jr washed most of the white paint off in the carwash...which is a good thing...door is still pretty rough..he thinks he knows where there is another one that may even be the right color, bonus....gun rack in the cab is a nice touch...he'll be keepin that....got it all cleaned up and took it to his place and unloaded it in his garage for dismantle....LET THE BUILD COMMENCE[cl:D:)

Chassis Found

:)Went to a swap meet on the weekend and scored an s10 running and driving for $300 and an engine crane for another $150...also bought some other goodies for a future project:D...the s10 doesn"t seem to bad either...v6,auto P.S. and brakes....Jr. was pumped about it and listed all the body parts for sale and I think he sold most of the sheet metal for more than the truck costs[cl...Looks like he's got this project figured out...Lo Buck Chevy:cool:

Makin Progress!

I stopped over at Jr.'s after work and looks like he made some progress on the weekend....he found a better door for the old chevy and had it mounted...looks good...he basically has everything stripped down where he can lift the body off but needed room inside the garage to strip down the s10 so it got booted outside....he has most of the s10 tore down saving as much of the useable parts as possible, wiring, heater assembly, pedals brake booster etc....shouldn't be long now when the bod's get switched...the old chevy has a nice patina look once he got it cleaned up...lookin good jr.[cl

More Progress

We hauled an x-tough truck home for the powertrain...it's got a throttle body efi 350 and a 700r trans which jr. thought would be better:rolleyes:for he is thinking about using this truck year round and fuel injection would be better for using a command start in the winter....okay we are to lazy to go out in the cold to start our trucks...there I said it:D...he got the s10 all stripped down and is starting to set it up to mount the body of the old chevy, got the end of the frame horns cut off as well as the existing cab mounts etc....he come over the other night to borrow:rolleyes: my welder...like I am going to see that again...his place is like a black hole....once it gets there it never returns[S..he's almost to the point where we can start seeing some building happening instead of disassembly...I'll keep you posted as it happens

Great price on both trucks. If I could find an S-10 that nice at that price I would be the proud owner of a V-8 S-10.

Looks can be Decieving!

Great price on both trucks. If I could find an S-10 that nice at that price I would be the proud owner of a V-8 S-10.

Don't let the picture fool you...the s10 had major rust issues in the floor area as well as rockers, cab corners and all the mounts were pretty much rotted right off...basically you didn't have to unbolt it, just lift it off:eek:...the rest of the sheet metal didn't seem to bad though...pretty sure that the trucks sheet metal were updated at some point....No the s10 had served its purpose and this was the best thing that could have happened to it before someone got hurt in it.

Interior Prep!

I stopped off at jr.'s after work and he was preasure washing the inside of the cab on the 50 chevy...alot of the old green paint was coming off which was a good thing...I asked what his plan was for the interior and he said that he was going to take a grinder to the inside and strip all the paint off and then clear coat it....I like it!...That should give it a pretty cool look.
